The Ashmolean Museum opened its doors in 1683 and is the world’s first public museum. Over the course of its long and eventful history, the Ashmolean has developed from a cabinet of curiosities into the world’s greatest university museum of art and archaeology.

It is a much-celebrated treasure house with incredibly rich and diverse collections encompassing worldwide art and archaeology across millennia from prehistory to the present day, from Egyptian Mummies to Old Master drawings, Medieval jewellery to Contemporary Chinese paintings.
